Never in a million years would I have considered using the Tangle Teezer hairbrush. Why? Because it's not for me. What I mean is, it's not for someone with an Afro. When it comes to tools and utensils for my 'fro, I'm a little picky. I've had years of experience with plenty of trial and error. Of course, the idea of a hairbrush that detangles my Afro hair pain and breakage free with minimal time, would be like having a real British summer again. Slim chances. Even though I knew this, I couldn't help but have a look at it one day. As if seeing the brush for real and holding it in my hands would magically change it and turn it into something that I too could indulge in.
The only people I know that use a Tangle Teezer brush have white - European hair. They love it and I can't lie, I've got all the FOMO!
Nowadays I spend about 20-30 minutes detangling my Afro, Some times It can be laborious and test my patience. So, when I was invited to see the new Tangle Teezer HQ I was excited but hella sceptical especially when I found out they had a shower Tangle Teezer brush and a new Afro specific brush.
During the CEOs inspiring speech, I slyly whispered to the mixed race employee next to me, "ok, so do YOU actually use this brush?" She smiled and made sure I left the event with both brushes. I prepared myself for the feeling of disappointment, I might have even laughed at myself in disbelief...
But I can honestly say, the shower brush has changed my wash days. Yes, it's noisy and sounds a bit like you're grating carrots, but blast some tunes and you soon get away from that. When you first clap eyes on it, it's a bit odd in shape but your hand just kinda gets it. The clever hollow design and sealed teeth means the water just trickles off it. I reckon I spend at least 10 minutes less than I used to and the hair shedding is about the same. As for the Afro brush, you can now often find it in my bag next to my Afro pik. I love how it can add extra volume to my from without braking the hair and it's great on my damp hair to distribute product better.
I don't know if they will work for you, but clearly Teezer HQ have been working on the development of their product and I now get to spend more time singing in the shower than cursing with achy arms.
If you do give it a go and it works, then, you're welcome :-) But whatever the result, I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Holla at your girl.
