How did my hair go from my usual boasty 'fro, to the more demure girl next door, 70s chick? Well the gorgeous Freddie Harrel has just launched a new amazing Afro hair extension range. It's called Big Hair No Care and I was fortunate enough to be one of the models to try them out and model for the lookbook and website.
Myself and some other afro beauties all met up with Freddie at Choolips Studio - a quirky, European-chic style studio apartment. We stuck a playlist on, drank tea, ate croissants and then began looking through the 70s inspired outfits sourced from Libertine and ASOS. Both of which have some divine prints and fabrics right now, in the shape of flowing dresses, gown shaped silk jackets (TO. DIE. FOR) and jumpsuits, with badass fire red and parrot yellow furs good enough to honour Lil' Kim! Freddie and the stylist chose a classic high waisted denim flared trouser and a selection of fitted polo tee's for me to wear.
First, we had our makeup done by Bobbi Brown make up artist, the wonderful, Adeola. The aim was to achieve a natural look using Bobbi Brown products and after seeing the results, I highly recommend the Vitamin Enriched Face Base and Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheek. The base left my skin feeling so smooth with a balmy, fresh look ready for my makeup application, whilst the Pot Rouge made my cheeks look dewy and girl next doorish. Next, the talented Marlene and Lu dug their hands deep into my recently washed 'fro and worked out how to style my longer lengthed hair into a shorter style. They repeatedly took sections of my hair and made half buns (with loose hair left free to hang out of the hair band) and then clipped in the extensions on top of the bun covering the hair band.
I was finally ready for photographer Sarah to shoot me in the pop art, Rubix cube-esque, tiled bathroom.
I had so much fun with everyone. The atmosphere was so relaxed and filled with plenty of girlie laughter, our killer playlist definitely played a part in the playful vibes. At one point we were wining our waists to Fela Kuti and then rapping the lyrics to drake's Hotline Bling - The perfect photo shoot environment.
