Yes the sun seems to be having a dance off with the clouds right now, but the temperatures are pretty warm out regardless. I've got friends complaining that they've just realised they haven't got a suitable summer wardrobe and I'm just trying to find any excuse to have bare legs and open toes.
I'm totally open to straying from my usual look and there's nothing better than seeing that you look like a sexy badass in something you normally wouldn't look twice at. This brings me to the lime green number I'm wearing. Bought at a sample sale earlier this year, by Whistles (you probably guessed). I liked it, but I didn't know why. I'm not normally attracted to formal-ish wear, or oblong shaped dresses with wide shoulders straps, or collar/breast-bone detail, but there was something a little different about this dress.
Firstly I knew the colour was going to absolutely POP against my skin, thanks to running I have an extra summer glow going on too. The world is a better place with some colour in it. Several people commented on how lovely the it was to see someone in bright tones and how summery I looked. And that's the bloody point looking and feeling like summer and having some fun, otherwise why bother getting dressed?! Secondly, the length makes wearing it to work completely acceptable, but the splits make it a little more interesting for anything after, with the bust detail drawing attention to the design of the dress and not just your breasts! And lastly, I found the fit to be perfect and the material comfortable in the heat.
With the weather so hot, I really didn't wan't my Afro sweating round my neck, or the usual boring bun, so I made use of a childhood classic. Two twists but starting from the beginning of the side parting. Top tip - If your hair tends to unravel quite easily from a twist, when you get to the very end, split one of the strands into two (making three) and plait the last little bit. This will lock in your twist and still look seamless.
Here's an out take photo of me getting all camera shy and silly. You only live once and what's the point in wearing the same type of thing? This dress teamed with my faithful chunky sandals took it out of the "formal" dressing up box and deffo made it more playful. But that's just what I think. I urge you to get in your wardrobe and wear that thing you've been avoiding, or give an old outfit a new spin with some different style accessories and tell me about it too.
